CORMASTER® HONEYCOMBS


As a pioneer in honeycomb technology SCHÜTZ has been developing and producing CORMASTER® honeycomb cores and honeycomb panels for over 35 years. In a process developed by SCHÜTZ the honeycomb composites are produced using films made of calendered aramid fibres (aramid paper) and phenolic resin. The aramid paper used for honeycombs is based on two types of aramid fibres: meta-aramid and para-aramid.

CORMASTER C1 and C2 honeycombs made of Nomex® paper

DuPontTM meta-aramid fibre, sold under the brand name NOMEX®, is processed to produce two types of paper.

CORMASTER® C1 honeycombs are made of NOMEX® T412 paper and comply with the requirements of aerospace applications.

CORMASTER® C2 honeycombs are made of NOMEX® T722 paper and are used in a wide range of industrial structural and sandwich applications, such as in motor vehicles, trains, ships and the sports industry.



CORMASTER CN1 honeycombs made of Kevlar® paper

DuPontTM para-aramid fibres are sold under the brand name Kevlar®.

N636 paper material is used to make SCHÜTZ CORMASTER® CN1 honeycombs. These high-performance honeycombs cores and honeycomb panels are used where maximum performance is required, like in the aerospace industry.

What types of CORMASTER® honeycombs are available?

SCHÜTZ manufactures honeycomb panels and honeycomb blocks in a wide variety of customized configurations. We can offer the optimum construction material for almost all applications.

All our honeycomb types (CN1, C1 and C2) are available with different cell widths from 3.2 mm to 9.6 mm and densities ranging from 20 kg/m3 to 144 kg/m3. The honeycombs are offered with hexagonal cells or with overexpanded cells for enhanced drapability. The thickness of the honeycomb panel is always cut to the customer’s specifications. WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF CORMASTER® HONEYCOMBS?

Our NOMEX® or Kevlar® honeycombs are the ideal non-metallic construction material for lightweight applications which demand superior mechanical properties coupled with an extremely low weight and exceptional fire protection characteristics (self-extinguishing). The honeycombs are lightweight, strong, electrically and thermally insulating, and resistant to chemicals and corrosion. These features make honeycombs superior to other core materials such as foams or balsawood.

WHICH APPLICATIONS CAN SCHÜTZ HONEYCOMB MATERIALS BE USED FOR?

Our lightweight composite materials are suitable for a wide range of applications.

Thanks to their excellent shear stiffness and strength CORMASTER® honeycomb panels are commonly used in a sandwich construction between two skin layers of prepreg. Sandwich panels can also made with stainless steel or anodised aluminium as skin. As well as being used for CORMASTER® sandwich panels, the material is also used to make milled honeycomb cores, thermo-formed honeycomb cores, bonded honeycomb cores and stabilised honeycomb cores.

  • Aerospace industry

    CORMASTER honeycombs – applications in the aerospace industry

    Design and production of interior, primary and secondary structures: aircraft floors, cargo lining, helicopter rotor blades and fuselage components are typical applications in the aerospace sector.

  • Maritime and sports

    CORMASTER honeycombs for maritime an sports

    Racing, motor sports such as Formula One, ski jumping and cross-country skiing, caravanning, sailing, high-performance motor yachts and sailing yachts: in all of these marine applications sandwich panels with honeycombs are used to make boat hulls and decks, bulkheads and hatches, doors and seating.

  • Trains and automotive engineering 

    CORMASTER honeycombs for trains and automotive engineering 

    In automotive, commercial vehicles and train construction, lightweight CORMASTER® sandwich panels are used for interior applications, structural components and fairings.
